Travis Johansen completed his sixth season at Grand View University in 2018, where he served as the defensive coordinator and secondary coach for the Vikings. In three seasons at Grand View, the defense has ranked nationally in a number of categories which has played a large role in the success of the team. Coach Johansen accepted a new position at the University of South Dakota as the Defensive Coordinator in January of 2019.
Prior to Grand View, Johansen spent six years on staff at NCAA II Concordia University- St Paul (Minn ) as the defensive coordinator, secondary coach, and special teams coordinator. He was responsible for the oversight of the team’s academics.
At Concordia, Johansen was part of the only two conference championship teams and the only two post-season berths in school history. He coached more than 15 all-conference selections, the first AFCA All-American in school history, the first conference newcomer of the year, and five national players of the week.
In his playing career, Johansen was a four-year starter at Concordia-St Paul with a 33-13 career record and 24-7 career record in NSIC conference play. The 2005 captain and First Team All-NSIC selection finished his career with 221 tackles, 23.5 tackles for loss, and 5.0 sacks.
